About Hartman Rock Garden

The Hartman Rock Garden is a visionary art environment created by self-taught artist Ben Hartman using concrete, metal, glass, stone, and found materials across a quarter-acre surrounding his historic home in Springfield, Ohio. Visitors explore the site using self-guided tour books, with the Kids Tour engaging children ages 6–12 to search for art objects by shape, hunt hidden symbols, and sketch their discoveries. The Highlight Tour serves visitors ages 13 and older. The garden features Ben Hartman's famous figurines including boxer Joe Louis, actress Mae West, and characters like Felix the Cat and Pinocchio. General admission is free, and the garden opens daily from dawn to dusk with free street parking available nearby. Most visitors spend 15 to 60 minutes on-site. Accessibility improvements include wheelchair and walker access, and a Touch Tour for visitors who are blind or have low vision. The site welcomes volunteer participation throughout the year for garden maintenance and care.
