N.C. Transportation Museum houses the Bob Julian Roundhouse, North America's largest remaining roundhouse, where visitors walk among locomotives, passenger rail cars, and a full-size Wright Flyer replica. The Back Shop, a massive former steam locomotive repair building, displays antique automobiles, fire trucks, and a Piedmont Airlines DC-3 restoration. Visitors begin at Barber Junction Depot, an authentic 1898 railroad station serving as the Visitor Center and train ride boarding area. General admission provides access across the 60-acre historic site, with seasonal train rides available on select days lasting approximately 25 minutes. The museum offers hands-on exhibits, special events including Legends by Lantern Tours, and group activities suited to school groups and families. Located in Spencer, North Carolina on the grounds of the former Southern Railway Spencer Shops, the museum charges admission with tickets sold online. ASTC members receive one free admission and train ride through reciprocal membership, verified at nctransportationmuseum.org.
