About Museum of the Moving Image
Museum of the Moving Image in Queens explores how cinema, television, and digital entertainment are made and experienced. Visitors move through the core exhibition Behind the Screen, which immerses them in the creative and technical processes of producing, promoting, and presenting moving image content. The museum hosts major exhibitions including Overexposed, which examines how cinema and X-ray technology transformed views of the human form through works by sixteen artists, and The Jim Henson Exhibition, featuring Jim Henson's groundbreaking contributions to film and television. The museum runs free community programs including family-friendly workshops, performances, and conversations with working professionals in film, television, art, and emerging technologies. MoMI LAB serves as a free public space for exploring how emerging technologies reshape creativity and culture. The museum also operates Science on Screen, a film series combining special screenings with conversations between scientists and filmmakers on topics ranging from marine ecosystems to artificial intelligence.
