About Museum of Performance + Design

Museum of Performance + Design celebrates the art of performance through its collection of historical and original materials documenting the performing arts in the San Francisco Bay Area. Visitors explore rotating exhibitions featuring photographs, audiovisual recordings, and printed memorabilia spanning 75 years of collecting. Current exhibitions include The Music of Bert Williams and Russell Hartley's Attic, alongside thematic shows such as Stars of the Early San Francisco Stage and Mapping Dance: The Scores of Anna Halprin. The museum maintains a research archive where visitors can access materials by appointment on Thursdays. Those unable to visit in person can browse 4,300 photographs, audiovisual recordings, and memorabilia through the museum's online collection available 24/7. The temporary museum is located between Potrero Hill and Bernal Heights in San Francisco. General admission is free, with visits by reservation recommended.
