About Miami Friends of the Japanese Garden

Ichimura Miami-Japan Garden on Watson Island in Miami Beach is a restored Japanese garden where visitors explore landscaped grounds featuring a pond, water features, and traditional garden design. The garden hosts seasonal festivals throughout the year, including spring and fall events with cultural performances and demonstrations. At these festivals, visitors watch Taiko drummers, martial arts performances, and Japanese dance. Sushi demonstrations with sample plates are offered, and Ikebana flower arrangement workshops teach traditional Japanese floral design. Vendors set up tents selling Asian food and products. The garden itself remains open daily for quiet visits among the restored landscape. Friends of the Japanese Garden, a nonprofit incorporated in 1984, operates the site and organizes programming to introduce Japanese culture to the community. The organization welcomes volunteers for garden maintenance and event support.
