About L&N Depot Museum

The L&N Depot Museum in Etowah, Tennessee occupies a restored 15-room Victorian structure that served as a Louisville & Nashville railroad terminal and division headquarters beginning in 1902. Visitors tour the historic building, which houses exhibits titled "Growing UP With The L&N: Life and Times in a Railroad Town," exploring the town's origins as a planned railroad community and its role as a major rail center. The museum documents how the complex employed over 2,000 workers in its shops during the 1920s and processed 14 passenger trains daily through Etowah. Exhibits cover the railroad's operations, the community that grew around the depot, and the facility's eventual decline after passenger service ended in 1968. The building was restored in 1981 and again in 2012, returning it to its original condition while preserving its architectural and historical significance. The active CSX Railroad mainline still runs adjacent to the depot, connecting Cincinnati and Atlanta.
