About National Medal of Honor Heritage Center
The National Medal of Honor Heritage Center in Chattanooga memorializes the nation's highest military award for valor and educates visitors about the six character traits embodied by Medal recipients: patriotism, citizenship, courage, integrity, sacrifice, and commitment. The centerpiece is the Captain Larry Taylor exhibit, which immerses visitors in a Vietnam War rescue mission through story-driven displays and authentic artifacts. The gallery features a full-scale AH-1G Cobra attack helicopter, the actual aircraft Taylor piloted during his heroic landing to save a stranded team. Visitors explore how this Medal of Honor recipient made the extraordinary decision to land an aircraft never intended for rescue. The Heritage Center offers guided tours for individuals, groups, and schools, with accessible facilities including handicap parking near the entrance and an elevator to the gallery. Ample parking is available nearby, and hours are published on the venue's website.
