About Junior Center of Art and Science
Junior Center of Art and Science is a museum in Oakland on the shores of Lake Merritt where children ages 6–17 explore art and science through hands-on creative work. Visitors can attend after-school classes in visual arts, creative coding, and carpentry, or enroll in full-day summer camps led by professional artists and educators in visual arts and fashion design. On Saturdays, the center offers free drop-in programming including sensory play, gallery viewing, and opportunities to watch reptiles being fed at noon. The Bellevue Room features whimsical colored glass windows and a student-painted mural. The center also hosts hands-on workshops, field trips, and in-school residency programs. Spaces are wheelchair-friendly and welcoming to learners of all abilities. The center is open Tuesday through Saturday, with hours published on its website.
