About Junior Center of Art and Science

Junior Center of Art and Science cultivates curiosity through creative exploration for youth in Oakland on the shores of Lake Merritt. Visitors engage in visual arts, creative coding, and carpentry during after-school enrichment classes for ages six through thirteen, offered in small class sizes. Summer camp programs run for one or two weeks in full-day sessions for ages six through seventeen, with projects led by professional artists and educators in visual arts and fashion design. The center features a gallery with rotating exhibits and hosts free drop-in programming on Saturdays from ten in the morning to four in the afternoon, including reptile feeding demonstrations at noon and sensory play activities in the Bellevue Room. The facility also offers hands-on workshops, field trips, and in-school residency programs. Located at 558 Bellevue Ave. in Oakland, the center is open Tuesday through Saturday and provides equitable access to arts and science programs for youth throughout Oakland and the greater East Bay Area.
