About Museum of Children's Art [MOCHA]

Museum of Children's Art [MOCHA] in downtown Oakland offers hands-on studio time where children doing art activity at the venue work with clay, comics, and fashion design alongside visiting exhibitions like the Community Futures School's Afrofuturist showcase. Founded in 1988 to close the arts-education gap, MOCHA reaches over 35,000 kids yearly through art camps during school breaks, weekly open studios requiring no appointment or experience, and free neighborhood workshops at Oakland and Berkeley Public Libraries. Field trips bring hands-on lessons to schools, while adult art workshops and private art parties serve families seeking creative celebration space. The museum sits in downtown Oakland's City Center, accessible by BART. Families receiving EBT, WIC, or Medi-Cal benefits qualify for reduced admission, as do those with state benefits through the Museums for All initiative. Details on current hours and programs appear at mocha.org.
