The Julian Pioneer Museum houses artifacts that tell the story of Julian's history from 1869 onward, displayed within the restored walls of the historic Treshil blacksmith shop. Visitors explore Native American displays representing the villages that scattered throughout the area before Julian's founding. The museum chronicles how residents of that era labored, traveled, cooked and clothed themselves through historical artifacts arranged at eye level and overhead. Mounted animals representing species found in the region appear throughout the exhibition space, creating a visual narrative of the natural environment. A visit involves walking through the restored blacksmith shop to examine artifacts, displays and taxidermied wildlife that capture life during the late nineteenth century. The museum features a working blacksmith forge, period clothing, cooking implements, mining equipment and transportation tools that illustrate daily life in Julian's pioneer era.
