About Graue Mill & Museum

Graue Mill and Museum in Oak Brook operates a restored 1850s gristmill where visitors watch demonstrations of milling, spinning, and weaving. On Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m., volunteers feed corn and grain into the mill's original French buhrstones to show how the operation worked during the 19th century. The limestone basement walls, handmade bricks from the Graue farm, white oak timbers, and working machinery illustrate how Frederick Graue built and operated this economic center after emigrating from Germany. The adjacent Frederick Graue House displays the family's 1850s Victorian home. Summer day camps offer hands-on activities for children. The Civilian Conservation Corps restored the abandoned mill in the 1930s and 1940s, replacing windows and doors and rebuilding the millrace. General admission is free. The museum sits within Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve at York and Spring roads.
