About Garfield Farm Museum

Garfield Farm Museum preserves a 366-acre farmstead in La Fox that includes three original 1840s buildings, barns dating from 1842 to 1906, and a recreated 1859 farmstead with multiple structures. Visitors explore the 1846 brick inn, hay barn, horse barn, and outbuildings that demonstrate nineteenth-century agricultural life. The museum hosts escorted tours, seminars on prairie and woodland management, bat and bluebird box construction, and fruit tree grafting. Specialty shows feature rare breed livestock, heirloom seeds, and antique farm tools. The property encompasses 45 acres of natural area including unplowed prairie, wetlands, and a fen that reflect the landscape settlers encountered. Monthly prairie walks, barn dances, and a candlelight tavern reception occur throughout the year. School field trips and educational programs are available. The museum charges admission and welcomes visitors to experience both frontier hospitality and the natural heritage of Kane County.
