The Elmhurst History Museum, an award-winning regional history museum founded in 1957, engages visitors through extensive collections, enlightening exhibits, and diverse educational experiences. Located in the Glos Mansion, a historically significant landmark built around 1892, the museum houses more than 15,000 three-dimensional artifacts, archives with letters and manuscripts, and over 10,000 historic photographs. The award-winning interactive exhibit By All Accounts: The Story of Elmhurst examines the city's 165-year history through engaging displays. The museum presents rotating temporary exhibits on regional history topics alongside traveling exhibits created by museum staff. Visitors can also experience the Churchville Schoolhouse, a restored National Register of Historic Places property built around 1850, where school and scout groups participate in authentic living history programs led by interpreters portraying early 1900s schoolmarms. General admission is free. The museum is located in downtown Elmhurst, Illinois, conveniently situated near public transportation and parking.
