About Camera Obscura and Holograph Gallery

Camera Obscura and Holograph Gallery in San Francisco features a rare optical device based on a 15th century design by Leonardo da Vinci. Visitors enter the Giant Camera, a unique instrument that captures and projects 360 degrees of live images of the Seal Rock Area onto an internal viewing surface. Light rays are focused through the camera's lens system to create spectacular real-time panoramic views of the surrounding coastal landscape. The device operates as a working optical instrument rather than a static display, allowing guests to observe how light naturally projects images without digital technology. The gallery also presents holograph exhibits alongside the camera experience. The attraction suits curious visitors interested in historical optical science, photography principles, and natural light phenomena. A visit involves stepping inside the camera structure to watch the live projected images change as the operator adjusts the device's position and focus. The Camera Obscura and Holograph Gallery is located in San Francisco, California.
