About Berea Historical Society (Buehl House)

The Berea Historical Society operates the Buehl House museum in Berea, Ohio. Founded in 1959 by historian Dorothy Marks McKelvey, the organization preserves and interprets the history of Berea and Old Middleburgh Township. Visitors tour the museum to explore historical collections and memorabilia that chronicle the region's transformation from an agricultural area into a quarry town following the discovery of rich sandstone veins. The museum features exhibits on local industries, domestic life, and the area's architectural heritage. The Society sponsors school tours for children and adults, hosts public events throughout the year with programs of historical interest, and maintains newspaper archives available online. Visitors can search these archives to explore local history and trace family connections to the community. The organization publishes The Enterprise, a quarterly award-winning publication distributed to members.
