The 103rd O.V.I. Civil War Museum in Sheffield Lake celebrates the lives and service of soldiers from Cuyahoga, Lorain, and Medina counties who served in the 103rd Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. Visitors explore the museum housed in historic barracks originally built by regiment members and nicknamed "ELFORDILNO," which preserves the organization's history through photographs documenting the regiment's past and present, along with artifacts from the soldiers' service. The organization, founded by Civil War veterans in 1866 and the oldest such organization composed of direct descendants, hosts four pancake breakfasts annually featuring homemade buttermilk pancakes and sausage. Educational programs and guided tours are available at the museum, which also hosts annual reunions on the shores of Lake Erie, bringing together visitors interested in the regiment's legacy and the service of over one thousand men who answered President Lincoln's call for volunteers in 1862.
