Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument in Cleveland commemorates the American Civil War through a 125-foot column topped with a statue of the Goddess of Freedom. Visitors explore the Memorial Room inside, which displays four bronze relief sculptures depicting the Women's Soldiers' and Sailors' Aid Society, the Beginning of the War in Ohio, the Emancipation of the Slaves, and the End of the War. The room also features busts of General James Barnett and Architect-Sculptor Levi T. Scofield alongside six officers killed in action or who died from disease and wounds. Outside on the esplanade, four bronze groupings show battle scenes of the Navy, Artillery, Infantry, and Cavalry. The monument hosts educational programs and YouTube videos covering Civil War history, including topics like the Emancipation Panel and the Women of the Soldiers' Aid Society.
