About North Royalton Historical Society

North Royalton Historical Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to collecting and preserving historical evidence about North Royalton's past. Visitors explore the James Buckingham Museum, housed in the Smith-Rutledge House, a structure built in 1856 that offers a window into the area's heritage. The museum displays artifacts and exhibits that chronicle the city's rich history within this preserved homestead. James Buckingham, a founding member of the historical society in the late 1970s, worked as a co-author on "The History of North Royalton," compiling the city's historical record for future generations. The Smith-Rutledge House was formally dedicated as the James Buckingham Museum in 2015 to honor his contributions. Visitors to North Royalton can step inside this historical home to understand how residents lived during the nineteenth century and learn about the community's development and heritage.
