About African American Art & Culture Complex

The African American Art & Culture Complex in San Francisco's historic Fillmore neighborhood is a premier institution dedicated to visual, digital, and performance art and cultural programming. Visitors explore rotating exhibitions across multiple floors, including current shows like Gustavo Castillo's "Lines of My Destiny," featuring ballpoint pen portraits of Garifuna community members, and Isaiah Williams's "Zay's Notebook," which explores Black identity and hair politics through large-scale paintings and digital illustrations. The complex also hosts the comprehensive "Emory Douglas: In Our Lifetime" exhibition spanning over 50 years of revolutionary artistic work displayed across the first, second, and third floors. Group tours are available Tuesday through Friday. The venue offers programming for youth, adults, and families, including the Wakanda Winter Wonderland celebration featuring holiday arts, crafts, games, and storytelling for Black families and youth. General admission is free, and the complex is open Monday through Saturday.
