Redwood National and State Parks preserve ancient coast redwood forests along the northern California coast, where visitors hike forest trails and explore coastal landscapes. The parks encompass three state parks—Prairie Creek Redwoods, Del Norte Coast Redwoods, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods—plus a national park, all protecting old-growth redwood ecosystems. Fern Canyon offers a notable hiking destination within a day-use area. Five visitor centers throughout the parks provide essential trip information and maps for scenic drives. Visitors choose from four developed campgrounds or seven backcountry campsites for overnight stays. The redwood forest shelters banana slugs, black bears, Douglas-firs, gray whales, and sea anemones alongside towering redwoods. Park staff conduct resource management and educational programs to preserve the region's biodiversity. Most of the parks require no entrance fee, though some day-use areas charge a fee.
