About Wright Earthworks
Wright Earthworks in Newark, Ohio preserves one of three sections of the largest set of geometric earthen enclosures in the world. Built by ancient Americans, this architectural wonder consists of geometric earthwork formations that visitors can explore on the grounds. The site includes an octagon earthwork with interior features shaped by prehistoric builders. A visitor center provides context for understanding the ancient construction and its significance as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The grounds are open during daylight hours, and guided tours are available to help interpret the earthworks and their history. The nearby Great Circle and Octagon Earthworks, along with the Newark Earthworks Museum, complete the preserved complex within Licking County. These interconnected sites together represent an extraordinary achievement of pre-Columbian engineering and design that shaped the landscape over a thousand years ago.
