The Works in Newark, Ohio houses interactive exhibits spanning history, art, and science within a red brick building with an arched entrance in downtown Newark. Visitors explore first-floor science labs where they make racecars and experiment with electricity, then ascend to second-floor history displays featuring a 13,000-year-old mastodon and exhibits on aviator Jerrie Mock, the first woman to fly solo around the world. The museum operates a working hot shop where guests ages 12 and up can try glassblowing, while younger visitors access glass-fusing experiences. The SciDome planetarium offers daily immersive shows included in admission. An art gallery rotates exhibitions four times yearly. The museum suits children ages 2 through 11 primarily, though it welcomes all ages with dedicated areas like the Discovery Lab for younger children and programs for teens and adults. AAA members receive $1 off daily admission. ASTC, NARM, and Smithsonian Affiliate members gain free admission. COSI, the Dawes Arboretum, and SPI Museum members receive 50% off. Tickets are sold online at attheworks.org.
