The Watauga Valley Railroad Historical Society and Museum operates the Chuckey Depot Museum and Coach Yard in Jonesborough, preserving the history of rail travel through restored vintage equipment and educational programs. Visitors explore the 1906 Chuckey Depot, a former Southern Railway station now open to the public, which houses railroad artifacts collected over decades. The organization maintains six vintage cars, including restored passenger coaches, a dining car, a lounge car, and Historic Clinchfield 100, the General Manager's car from the Clinchfield Railroad. Members and volunteers participate in hands-on work sessions at the coach yard on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The society sponsors excursion trips throughout the year to scenic railroads and mainline routes, along with carpool tours for members.
