The Netherland Inn & Boatyard Historic Site in Kingsport preserves a three-story stone and timber structure listed on the National Register of Historical Sites, overlooking the Holston River in Boat Yard Park. Visitors tour the restored Inn's thirteen rooms, two central hallways, and seven fireplaces, viewing interior paneling and woodwork crafted in Federal style by frontier carpenters. The site encompasses original outbuildings including a three-story bank stable, smokehouse, well, log warehouse, and reconstructed slave cabins that tell the story of early settlement. A wharf demonstrates the historical loading point for flatboats and steamboats that served this boatyard during the mid-1700s when settlers built vessels for westward migration. The grounds feature seasonal events including tea gatherings, holiday celebrations, and sales. Tours are available on select days during the warm months. The site's extensive restoration, begun in 1968, involved careful reconstruction using period materials and techniques to honor the original craftsmanship and architectural details.
