About Kingsport Carousel & Park

Kingsport Carousel & Park features a vintage menagerie-style carousel with more than 30 hand-carved animals housed in the Pal's Roundhouse downtown. Children ride hand-carved and hand-painted dogs, cats, dragons, tigers, zebras, and horses created by over 300 volunteers. The carousel sits on a refurbished 1956 frame from the Allan Herschell Company. Artist Ellen Elmes redesigned the rounding panels to depict Kingsport's history, with volunteers adding portraits of 24 indigenous birds led by JoAnne McDonough. The Pal's Roundhouse also contains a gift shop and a party room available to rent for birthday celebrations and other events. Visitors can explore the carousel's intricate animal carvings and hand-painted details while learning about the community's heritage through the historical panels and bird artwork that adorn the structure.
