About USS Potomac

USS Potomac is Franklin D. Roosevelt's historic presidential yacht, a 165-foot National Historic Landmark built in 1934 and restored to public view in 1995. Visitors explore the vessel at Jack London Square in Oakland through dockside tours or embark on two- or three-hour narrated cruises across San Francisco Bay. The ship served as FDR's floating residence and diplomatic venue, hosting dignitaries, government officials, diplomats, and royalty during his presidency from 1936 until his death in 1945. The Potomac also carried the President's Scottish terrier, Fala, who became famous as FDR's constant travel companion and received thousands of fan letters annually. Throughout the year, the attraction offers special event cruises featuring live music and bay sightseeing, along with private charter options. The ship's history connects visitors to FDR's leadership during the Great Depression and World War II, including his role in authorizing major infrastructure projects like the Golden Gate Bridge.
