The museum features railroad and Civil War artifacts spanning from before the city's founding through the 2000 reopening of the Western & Atlantic Railroad tunnel. Visitors use a cell phone audio guide created by local experts to explore exhibits at their own pace, with admission to the museum included in all tours. The Clisby Austin House, built in 1848 alongside the tunnel through Chetoogeta Mountain, served as a field hospital during the Civil War where generals including John Bell Hood and William T. Sherman stayed while doctors treated wounded soldiers in the kitchen and outdoors. A recreated general store museum captures the atmosphere of the original two-story store that once operated near the train depot as a community gathering place. Visitors can explore these connected sites and stay as long as they wish, with photography permitted throughout.
