About Fort Oglethorpe Welcome Center

The Fort Oglethorpe Welcome Center occupies the parade ground of a historic U.S. Army cavalry post in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Visitors explore historic artifacts, photographs, and interpretive information spanning local, American, and global history from the Spanish-American War through World War II. The center displays exhibits including the 6th Cavalry Horse and Soldier display, the Fort O Diorama, a ribbon display, and Mail from the Fort O Post. Surrounding the welcome center stand original officer's housing and post buildings completed in 1905 in Classic Renaissance Revival style. The Fort Oglethorpe Historic District, added to the National Historic Register in 1979, is adjacent to the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. Visitors can obtain walking tour guides to explore Barnhardt Circle's captivating history and architecture, learning stories about the Jeep's development, Hollywood filming, and the Women's Army Corps. General admission is free.
