About The Walton House

The Walton House Museum in Centerville is a historic stone residence built in 1838 that visitors tour to see its original architecture and period furnishings. Guests explore the four-bay hall and parlor cottage with its distinctive double front doors, paneled woodwork with cornices, and 6x6 windows topped with "marching soldiers" lintels. The limestone exterior displays a Flemish bond pattern using grapevine mortar. Inside, visitors view outstanding original woodwork including cupboards, fireplaces, winder stairs to the attic and cellar with metal wall rings for climbing, and period-appropriate wallpaper matching styles from the era. The Waltons added four rooms in matching style and filled the home with authenticated antiques, including a thirty-foot living room with fireplaces at each end. A visit involves walking through rooms with some interior steps between spaces.
