The Cobra Experience is a nonprofit museum in Martinez dedicated to celebrating Shelby American's dominance in sports car racing. Visitors explore 25,000 square feet of exhibit space showcasing 32 vehicles and over 4,000 Shelby American artifacts spanning the brand's history from 1962 to 1968. The collection features iconic cars including the Cobra, GT40, Daytona Coupe, GT350, and GT500, which shaped the evolution of the American muscle car industry. These vehicles were campaigned by Carroll Shelby at Shelby American's Southern California headquarters during the 1960s. The museum hosts approximately 40 events annually, including Cars, Kids & Coffee gatherings designed to engage the next generation in automotive history, along with Open Days for public visits and swap meets. The venue functions as both a museum and event space, allowing visitors to experience these legendary performance cars firsthand while learning about their racing heritage and engineering significance.
