About The Cave Store

The Cave Store in La Jolla offers self-guided tours through a century-old bootlegger's tunnel that leads into Sunny Jim's sea cave beneath the sandstone cliffs of La Jolla Cove. The attraction has operated since 1905 and remains the only sea cave in the United States accessible to the public without diving. Each tour lasts approximately 15 minutes and involves descending and ascending 145 stairs in each direction, requiring about five minutes of self-paced stair climbing. The stairs can be slippery, so closed-toed walking shoes are recommended. Groups are limited to 15 to 20 people per tour to ensure safety. Visitors should confirm all party members feel comfortable with the stair climb before entering. Service dogs are permitted, though other pets are not. The Cave Store is located in La Jolla, California.
