About Sharon Historical Society

The Sharon Historical Society preserves and shares the history of Sharon and the Shenango Valley through exhibits, educational programs, and archival research. Visitors explore the Wallis Mansion History Center, a restored 1901 home built in Prairie and Renaissance Revival styles featuring Victorian, Arts and Crafts, and Art Nouveau details. Interpretive exhibits showcase Sharon's transformation from a small village along the Shenango River into a major industrial center, chronicling the Sharon Block Coal boom, iron and steel manufacturing, and the companies and prominent citizens that shaped the region. The society conducts History Walks through downtown Sharon and neighborhoods, organizes cemetery tours highlighting community leaders and local figures, and hosts lectures and interactive educational programs. The Archival Research Library houses photographs, documents, artifacts, maps, and eyewitness accounts of the city's development. Many educational efforts are free, making local history accessible to students, visitors, and groups interested in Western Pennsylvania's industrial heritage and architecture spanning from the 1850s onward. The society is located in Sharon, Pennsylvania.
