The Pacific Southwest Railway Museum Association operates two locations in San Diego County dedicated to preserving railroad history through vintage equipment and hands-on experiences. At the Campo Railroad Museum, visitors ride vintage trains pulled by early twentieth-century locomotives, operated by volunteer train crews. The La Mesa Depot Museum showcases the 1894 original station building, La Mesa's oldest surviving structure, which was restored to its 1915 condition and documents the San Diego and Cuyamaca Railway's role in local history. The museum's collections include over 120 pieces of equipment and artifacts across both sites. Visitors can explore the Campo Depot waiting room, walk through the Display Building, and view passenger cars including Pullman coaches, sleepers, and dining cars from various railroads. Special programs include themed train rides such as Bunny Trains during Easter. The experience suits anyone interested in transportation history, from families to railroad enthusiasts, combining educational exhibits with the chance to ride restored trains through the San Diego region.
