About San Antonio Railroad Heritage Museum

The San Antonio Railroad Heritage Museum in Elmendorf preserves the railroading history of South Texas through exhibits and equipment displays. Visitors explore a railroadiana collection housed within the Elmendorf Public Library, where they learn about railroad operations, restoration, and preservation in the region. The museum features equipment from its collection, including the Southern Pacific Lines no. 260, which visitors can examine. The museum also maintains an HO model railroad built and maintained by the South Texas Railroad Prototype Modelers division. Another division, Friends of the SP 794, focuses on restoring and maintaining the SP 794 locomotive. The museum operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization dedicated to developing community interest in the area's railroad heritage and serving history enthusiasts and those interested in South Texas transportation.
