About San Antonio Fire Museum

The San Antonio Fire Museum occupies the historic Central Fire Headquarters building constructed in 1938, near the Alamo. Visitors explore exhibits showcasing the history and evolution of firefighting equipment, techniques, and the role of firefighters in the San Antonio community. The museum displays apparatus, equipment, photographs, and historical records that illustrate how volunteers once used hand-operated water pumpers and heavy leather hoses to battle fires in early San Antonio. Audio and visual displays complement the exhibition, while retired firefighter docents provide guided assistance throughout the galleries. The museum preserves and presents San Antonio's firefighting past while educating the public on fire safety. School children, tourists, civic groups, and residents visit annually to learn about the department's heritage and contributions to the community. Located in San Antonio, Texas, the museum operates with the support of over fifty volunteers and welcomes approximately ten thousand visitors each year.
