About Casa Navarro State Historic Site

Casa Navarro State Historic Site preserves the 1850s adobe and limestone home of José Antonio Navarro, a rancher and merchant who was one of only two native-born Texans to sign the Texas Declaration of Independence. Visitors tour the main house, general store, well, and back porch while learning about Navarro's advocacy for Tejano rights during the 55 years when Texas' destiny was forged. The site offers guided tours and school field trips through the historic structures. Seasonal programs include El Camino Real Archeology Day, where participants explore artifacts and create pinch pots or rock art, and the Legacy of the Chili Queens Workshop, a hands-on class in preparing historic chili recipes. A virtual interactive tour allows exploration from anywhere. Casa Navarro is located in San Antonio's historic Laredito neighborhood.
