About Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library

The Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library is a volunteer-run cooperative in Pittsburgh that operates an indoor play space where visitors engage with carefully selected toys designed for children from birth through kindergarten. Public drop-in play sessions occur several times weekly, requiring no advance reservation. The play space includes a dedicated infant area and an art room, with toys chosen to encourage imaginative play, cognitive development through problem-solving, and physical activity. The library focuses on open-ended play and avoids electronic toys. Members gain access to additional members-only play sessions and can borrow toys for home use. The facility also offers party rentals for both members and non-members. Founded in 1974, the Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library is one of the oldest continuously operating toy libraries in the United States. Hours are published on the venue's website and depend on volunteer availability.
