About Panola Mountain State Park

Panola Mountain State Park in Stockbridge preserves a 100-acre granite outcrop called a monadnock, similar to but smaller and more pristine than Stone Mountain. Visitors hike forested trails and a paved path suitable for biking, roller blading, jogging and dog-walking. Ranger-led guided hikes access the granite mountain itself, where hikers learn about rare plants and animals in this unique ecosystem. The park offers archery, geocaching, orienteering and birding programs. Children can use the playground while families picnic at shelters throughout the grounds. Two lakes spanning 35 acres together provide additional recreational space. Vaughters' Barn, an iconic structure from DeKalb County's agricultural past, stands on the park's landscape. The site serves as the crown jewel of the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area and holds designation as a National Natural Landmark.
