The Chumash garden along the museum's side teaches how indigenous people used native plants in daily life. Educational exhibits cover birds, whales, sea otters, geology, and Chumash Indian history. Nature videos play daily, and the museum offers docent-led educational walks for students and groups. The location sits within minutes of the Heron Rookery, Monta�a de Oro State Park, the El Moro Elfin Forest, and Audubon's Sweet Springs Nature Preserve. School and group tours are available by advance reservation. The museum overlooks both a State and National Estuary in Morro Bay, California.
