About Museum of Natural History
Museum of Natural History overlooks Morro Bay Estuary and Morro Rock from a hilltop perch west of Highway 1, midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Visitors explore state-of-the-art video displays and interactive exhibits in a new rotunda, then walk through a Chumash garden to learn how Native Americans used native plants in daily life. The museum shows nature videos daily and hosts special events about birds, whales, sea otters, geology and Chumash culture. Docent-led educational walks draw about 14,000 students annually, and group and school tours are available by advance reservation. The museum sits within Morro Bay State Park, minutes from the Heron Rookery, Montaña de Oro State Park and the El Moro Elfin Forest. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. except major holidays.
