The LBJ Museum of San Marcos commemorates President Lyndon Baines Johnson's formative years as a college student and teacher, exploring how those experiences shaped the landmark Great Society legislation he passed as the 36th president between 1963 and 1969. Visitors explore permanent and online exhibits that trace Johnson's time at Southwest Texas State Teachers College from 1927 to 1930, where he developed commitments to civil rights, education, and poverty elimination. The museum grounds relate Johnson's return visits to campus, including his 1964 announcement of the Job Corps program and his 1965 signing of the Higher Education Act at the university. The facility includes a second-floor auditorium and conference room available for civic, educational, and cultural events. Group tours and class visits can be arranged by contacting the museum. Located at 131 North Guadalupe in San Marcos, the museum opens Thursday through Saturday with general admission free.
