The Jefferson County History Center in Brookville showcases exhibits on the region's past, from Paleo-Indian life ways to pioneering industries of farming, lumbering and mining. Visitors explore displays including the Twyford motorcar, Brookville's first four-wheel-drive vehicle, and learn about Earle Sandt, known as "Brookville's Birdman" for making the first international flight over Lake Erie to Canada. The Bowdish Model Railroad features a detailed model train and miniatures diorama. The center houses an extensive research library with public computers, genealogy resources, county histories and searchable archives. A gift shop stocks publications, logo apparel, educational items, toys, fossils and local souvenirs. The organization also operates Scripture Rocks Heritage Park, a 12-wooded-acre outdoor museum with 1.5 miles of hiking trails and 67 boulders inscribed with biblical references and personal commentary. Family programs include guided park tours, walking tours of historic Brookville, annual trade shows, bicycle rides, Halloween walking tours and an escape room.
