About Baker Mansion

Baker Mansion is a history museum in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where visitors take guided tours through a Greek-revival manor built by ironmaster Elias Baker in the nineteenth century. Docents lead guests through decorated rooms on the basement, first floor, and second floor, which preserve period furnishings and the home's Civil War-era family history. The museum houses a collection of nearly 100,000 documents and artifacts donated by local residents, including sports memorabilia, industrial tools, militaria, period clothing, and historic furnishings. Topical exhibit galleries focus on key people, places, events, and themes throughout Blair County's history. The grounds host the Sunday on the Lawn concert series and afternoon tea events. Children age three and under receive free admission. The mansion charges admission and publishes its rates online. Service animals are welcome.
