Columbus Chapel & Boal Mansion Museum in Boalsburg displays eight generations of the Boal family's history across original furnishings, artwork, and artifacts from around the globe. Visitors tour the Boal Mansion, which has been the family home for over 200 years, and the Columbus Chapel, a centuries-old structure imported from Spain containing European art and pieces of the True Cross of Jesus. The museum houses the most significant collection of Christopher Columbus artifacts in North America, along with original documents signed by five U.S. Presidents, a lock of Napoleon's hair, and a large weapons collection. The grounds feature the Boal Amphitheater, gardens, hiking trails, and a wildlife observation platform. Daily tours run Wednesday through Sunday, with family-friendly tours available. The estate tells American history through one family's connection to world events, including links to Penn State University and Memorial Day's origins.
