About Blairsville Underground Railroad History Center

Blairsville Underground Railroad History Center documents the network that helped enslaved Africans reach freedom before the Civil War. Visitors explore exhibits housed in the historic Second Baptist Church building, constructed in 1917, the oldest African American church in Blairsville. The center displays Underground Railroad research materials and presentations that reveal how this network operated across the region. Exhibits include "A Day in the Life of An Enslaved Child" and other historic narratives that advance public awareness of the brave men, women, and children who used these routes to reclaim their humanity. Volunteers interpret historic figures for school groups and other visitors. The center offers Twilight Cemetery Tours where guides lead groups through the Blairsville Cemetery to explore headstone symbolism and meet figures from the Underground Railroad and other prominent citizens from the past. Group and bus tours are welcome by appointment. The center is located in Blairsville, Pennsylvania, and operates evenings and weekends throughout the year.
