About Henry B. Plant Museum
The Henry B. Plant Museum occupies the former Tampa Bay Hotel, an opulent winter resort built by shipping and railroad magnate Henry B. Plant that operated from 1891 to 1932. Visitors explore original furnishings and art objects from Europe and Asia collected by Henry and Margaret Plant. The Museum features permanent exhibits including "Tampa at War," examining a defining period of Tampa's history, "Age of Rail and Steam," exploring the Plant System's role in post-Reconstruction economic development, and "Grand Hotel," recapturing the resort's grandeur. Rotating exhibitions like "Cigar City Cinema" offer multimedia explorations of early cinema. A self-guided audio tour immerses visitors in the Hotel's history. The building served as a military headquarters during the Spanish-American War and is a National Historic Landmark.
