About The Woodson African American Museum of Florida

The Woodson African American Museum of Florida preserves and interprets the history, art, and culture of African Americans in Florida and beyond. Visitors explore exhibits that tell the stories of the St. Petersburg community from local, regional, and national perspectives. The museum features the Legacy Garden, which displays the monumental sculpture "Harriet Tubman: The Beacon of Hope," a powerful artwork depicting Tubman's journey and message of equality. The museum building itself stands in the revitalized Midtown St. Petersburg area alongside other historic landmarks including the Manhattan Casino, the Royal Theater Boys and Girls Club, and Mercy Hospital at the Johnnie Ruth Clarke Health Center. The venue occupies the former community center of Jordan Park, St. Petersburg's first African American public housing community. The museum hosts exhibits and events throughout the year that celebrate African American achievement and heritage. General admission is free.
