About Harris Lass House Museum

The Harris-Lass House Museum is the last farm site in Santa Clara. Visitors tour a fully furnished Italianate house built in 1865, most of whose furnishings belonged to the Lass family who lived on the property for 125 years. The house underwent extensive enlargement and remodeling in the 1890s. The museum grounds include a classic California barn, summer kitchen, tank house, landscaped gardens, and Heritage Orchard featuring fruit trees. The City of Santa Clara acquired the property in 1987 and, following restoration, opened it to the public in 1991. The Historic Preservation Society of Santa Clara, a nonprofit organization, operates the site with volunteer staff. The museum hosts public house tours, movie nights in the barn, and an annual flea market on the lawn.
