About Harris Lass House Museum

Harris-Lass House Museum preserves the last farm site in Santa Clara, featuring a fully furnished 1865 Italianate house with its classic California barn, summer kitchen, tank house, landscaped gardens, and Heritage Orchard. Built in balanced, symmetrical style, the house underwent extensive remodeling in the 1890s that altered its original design. Most furnishings and contents belonged to the Lass family, one of two families who owned and lived on the property for 125 years. Visitors tour the restored structures to experience Santa Clara's agricultural heritage and domestic life from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The museum opened to the public in 1991 after the City of Santa Clara purchased and restored the property. The Historic Preservation Society of Santa Clara, a nonprofit public benefit corporation staffed entirely by volunteers, operates the site. General admission is free. Tours run seasonally on published dates.
