About Gomez Mill House

Gomez Mill House is a museum in Marlboro, New York where visitors explore three centuries of American history through guided tours of a colonial fieldstone blockhouse and a 1913 mill building. Luis Moses Gomez, a Jewish community leader, purchased 1,200 acres with river access in 1716 and built the original structure on Jews Creek to conduct trade and operate mills and lime kilns. The property later became a center for Revolutionary War meetings under patriot Wolvert Ecker, then passed through the hands of the Armstrong family, paper historian and artisan Dard Hunter, and social activist Martha Gruening. Each owner's contributions shaped the House and surrounding grounds. Guided tours, offered on scheduled days, interpret these five owners' stories and trace how the blockhouse evolved to serve the community across generations. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
