About Gather Place Museum
Gather Place Museum is a living history museum housed in the historic 1877 African Methodist Episcopal Church in Yardley's Historic District. Visitors explore exhibits, documents, photographs, and documentaries that unveil overlooked aspects of Yardley Borough, Bucks County, and Pennsylvania history, with particular focus on African American and women's contributions. The museum offers interactive history lessons and historical reenactments performed in the West African Griot tradition, where stories convey history. Exhibits and programs explore Pennsylvania's Quaker founders, connections to the Underground Railroad, Civil War soldiers, the abolitionist movement, and figures like Harriet Tubman, William Still, Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, and Ida B. Wells-Barnett. Educational programs include dynamic historical lectures and first-person reenactments featuring live portrayals of historical figures, alongside History Hunt for Me learning modules. Schools, libraries, senior centers, and community organizations can arrange programs at the museum or at their own locations. The museum operates weekends and accommodates weekday appointments.
