The Cornelia White House is a historic home museum built in 1893 entirely from recycled railroad ties salvaged from abandoned Palmdale Railroad tracks. Originally constructed as a bungalow for Welwood Murray, the first hotel owner in Palm Springs, the structure became the residence of Cornelia White after she purchased his hotel in 1914. Visitors explore the restored home's rooms and furnishings while learning about White's remarkable life as an adventurer and educator. She traveled extensively before participating in mining expeditions and fruit farming, later settling in Palm Springs as an early notable resident. The museum features period details that reflect White's practical skills and interests, including domestic-science applications she taught. Knowledgeable curators are present to answer visitor questions and share stories about the house and its owner. General admission is free.
